HGRG Virtual Writing Retreat 2020

HGRG Virtual Writing Retreat 2020.

Happy 2020 all!  First job for Geography Workshop this new decade has been to organise the Historical Geography Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society’s now annual January writing retreat.  We’ve had a great time organising this retreat over the past two years, but this year with increasing costs and limited resources, it was felt that to enable more people to take part, the writing retreat would be held virtually. This allows historical geography scholars at any stage of their academic career anywhere in the world the opportunity to kick start the new year setting writing goals & working in the virtually company of fellow scholars in an encouraging, supportive collegial fashion to start new projects or complete those articles, chapters, proposals, funding bids that need attending to.

As with all ventures, there needs to be some preparation beforehand. Posting this blog 5 days before the start of the three day virtual writing retreat (which will run 7th – 9th Jan inclusive), you can find hints and tips on how best to set yourself up for getting on with your writing (see link below to pdf document containing tips and suggested timetable).

The hashtag #hgrg_vwr2020 will be available to use on twitter and other social media should folks wish to share their experiences, insights or just show photos of their favourite writing snacks / favourite places to write.

Happy writing!
